We love a a rug in a kids space, or a kids rug if you will. Who doesn’t?! But kids rugs aren’t always the easiest thing to decide on. That’s why we’ve decided to give you a little guide on choosing the perfect kids rug for your space.

1. Consider the space: Are you decorating a play room or maybe a bedroom? What’s the main use this kids rug will face?
2. Consider the use: If your little Miss or Mr is going to be playing with toys that have small components, you may want to avoid a shag pile so little bits and pieces don’t get “lost” in the pile. Or if your kiddos are anything like ours they may want something that is going to be comfortable to lie on, so you may want a kids rug that is going to provide some comfort if they lie on the floor.
3. Do you want this rug to see them through a few style changes?: Let’s face it, kids grow up and move through phases fairly quickly and we doubt you’ll want to change out their rug every time they move through a new phase. Choosing a rug that will grow with them is an excellent idea.
4. How big do you want the rug to be?: Is this kids rug a feature, an accent or simply a floor covering to stop your kiddos feet getting cold? Measure up as you would for any space and consider its’ purpose before deciding.
5. Consider the material: We know that between Instagram and Pinterest you’ve found a space that’s to die for you and want something similar in your home, but before you go and purchase that gorgeous kids rug for your kiddos space please consider the material limitations. For example, wool sheds so it’s not a great option with littlies who like to stick things in their mouths and jute isn’t as soft under foot or knee as other rug materials. Jute also doesn’t like getting wet, so if your kiddos are prone to spills a jute rug may not be the best choice. We’d suggest that when your kids are little and you’re looking at purchasing a kids rug that you go for a manmade material that will be easy clean, can take a good solid vacuum and isn’t likely to shed.
