Our Styling Guide gives rug placement tips and suggested sizes for different rooms. We know how tricky it can be trying to decide which size is right, so we developed this guide for you to look at and provide here a few sizing tips used by the professionals.
First and foremost it’s a great idea to take a download our styling guide and decide on the look that you’re after. Then you can measure up and perhaps mark out the space (tape or folded sheets work well for this). Then measure again. This should give you the best guide as to the size you require.
For rugs under queen size beds we recommend a minimum 330×240 (if it will work in your particular space) to make the space look larger.
Wherever possible, a larger rug generally makes a space visually larger and gives a more luxe look. We also recommend placing all furniture on the rug, or at least the front legs of the furniture and or chairs to ground the space.
With dining tables always allow 60cm per chair to pull out from the table. So, for example, if your table is 190×120 you’d need a rug at least 310×240.
Can I use a round rug in my living room? Of course you can!! These “rules” are a guide – and if you love a round rug go for it, we’d just say to go larger rather than smaller.
Layering? Make sure the size difference is big enough that each rug can be clearly seen. One should be large and dominant, the other used as more of an accent. Be brave – a layered look adds interest and texture to a space.
