Can you believe we are halfway through February already! This means it’s Style Files time once again.
This month we are very excited to chat to the founder and stylist of Sage Home Styling, Tamara Baker. You only have to scroll through the Sage Home Styling Insta feed to see Tamara’s fabulous flair for styling. It was the long journey to find her own first home that led Tamara to the world of interior styling. This journey led to the realisation of the impact presentation can have on the outcome of a sale. Tamara offers both styling to sell and styling to stay options and has grown her business by word of mouth. She takes huge pride in styling peoples’ homes and even work spaces, to suit their personal taste, brand image and lifestyle. Here’s what Tamara had to share with us.
My style:
It’s a bit hard to pinpoint exactly what it is. I’d say it’s probably transitional. We have an old Queenslander so I look for character pieces that are a bit rustic to compliment the style of the home and then I incorporate more modern contemporary style pieces to create a bit of interest and give it a bit of an edge.
I find inspiration:
Oh, so many places! I’m often inspired by my clients and their visions, I find inspiration in the different styles of homes and buildings and the stories they tell. There are SO many inspiring creatives on Instagram and I’m always looking to different forms of art and nature for inspiration.
I use colour to:
Inject life and personality or create a mood.
Form or function. Why?:
Oh, that’s hard, it has to have both for me personally and when decorating peoples homes to live in, however when it comes to property styling, it’s probably going to be form over function which is possibly a bit controversial!
Styling advice I live by:
Stick to the pieces you really love. An honest room is always up to date. If you love something, it will work. That’s the only real rule!
Top home styling tips:
Don’t be afraid to experiment, not everything has to match. Be faithful to your own taste because nothing you really like is ever out of style.
Top tips for buying the perfect rug:
Measure the space out and tape the outline if it helps to get a visual of how the size will work in the space. Create a mood board of the furniture and décor you will be using in the space and add your favourite rugs to see how it all works together.
What is your favourite go to Six Fourteen Rug?:
My go to is either the ‘Cooma Diamond’ or ‘Bowral Diamond’ as they are really versatile and work in almost any space, however I am currently eyeing off the ‘Bendigo’ for a room I’m doing in my own home.
