This month we were thrilled to discuss rugs and interiors with the wonderful Janine Lauder of Janineous Design. We’ve been privileged to work with Janine sourcing custom size rugs for commercial clientele – always a fun proposition. Janine’s work in the commercial space, particularly in schools throughout Australia brings together modern clean lines, striking colour combinations and stunning fabric choice. Janine also works in the private sector creating stunning yet livable spaces where texture always plays a part. Boy does she do it well! We love Janine for her unwavering support of small business as well as her sense of fun. Here’s what she had to say:
My style is:
Classic but always with something quirky to show my adventurous side!
I find inspiration:
Mother Nature nails it every time. I also do a lot of work in the education sector and children provide so much inspiration due to their open mindedness & joyous spirit.
I use colour to:
Evoke mood and ensure the user instantly connects with the space upon entry.
Form or Function. Why?:
Function without question. I use the stiletto as an analogy – stiletto’s look pretty but are impractical & I find overly styled rooms can run this risk so I ensure function reigns whilst remaining aesthetically pleasing.
Styling advice I live by:
Be true to yourself and steer clear of on-trend items unless you’re refurbishing to sell a property.
Top home styling tips:
You can never have too many cushions! Cushions ooze luxury, are a great source of colour & can freshen up your room instantly. Also, rethink your window treatments & allow maximum light into your rooms.
Top tips for buying the perfect rug:
Size really does matter & of course, Bec & Kate at SixFourteen never let me down with their fabulous range.
What is your go to Six Fourteen Rug?:
I have only used SixFourteen for custom rugs for hotels and recently for a boardroom so it’s tricky to have a favourite. There is nothing that can’t be created to suit a project which is why I love working with SixFourteen.
