This month we had the pleasure of chatting to the lovely Tara Carroll of @tara_louise_interiors. Prior to receiving her diploma in Interior Design, Tara was a dental nurse. However, the act of renovating her first home and then building her second home gave her the design bug. Working mostly on private design projects and property styling, the creativity and design of the work gives Tara a buzz. Taking an ugly duckling and creating something beautiful really is her speciality.
Here’s what Tara had to share with us:
Is a mixture of coastal & country.
I live in the country but spend a lot of time at the beach so my style is a bit of a reflection of the two. I’m always inspired by nature and raw organic elements.
Evoke certain emotions. Colour can have a huge effect on how you feel in a space, I’m always drawn to neutral earthy colours as they make me feel calm.
I think it’s important to always select pieces that will function well in a space first and then look at the form, something can be beautiful to look at but if the function isn’t there then it’s not worth having.
Less is more! Don’t overcrowd or fill up a space just because you can, it’s important to have some negative space to give you eyes somewhere to rest.
Top home styling tips:
Go bigger!! If you have a large space, rugs make a huge difference in creating “zones” they can help anchor furniture together & they can make a space look & feel cozy. I also love to use a large rug under dining tables, they can make a space feel grand.
