Here we are in winter, and as we all know it’s the perfect excuse for a home style update.
There’s nothing nicer than curling up with a hot drink and a good book, magazine (or perhaps a Netflix binge) when it’s cold outside, and there are many ways to create that enveloping warm feeling in your home. The Danish call is Hygge (pronounced “hoo-ga”) and it’s defined as being a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or wellbeing.
Here are just a few tips on how to bring a feeling of Hygge into your home:
1. Candles – Add some gorgeous simple beeswax candles and keep the lights low to create an intimate and cosy atmosphere.
2. Lamps – Instead of harsh over head lighting use beautiful table and floor lamps to give a little more light where it’s needed.
3. Deeper colours – Whilst we do love a light and bright colour scheme, adding some depth with a few well placed items in deeper tones is a great way to create a snug and welcoming space this Autumn/Winter. Think deep greys, greens, blues, mulberry and brown tones. Whatever makes you feel warm and content.
4. Rustic/handmade/earthy serving ware – When entertaining in the colder months it’s lovely to have some more rustic pieces to put out. Think wooden serving platters, handmade pottery bowls and heavier cut glass/crystal that add some oomph to your table.
5. Texture – Perhaps the best way to get that snug, cosy feel in a living space is adding a little texture. Be it a chunky knitted throw, a sheepskin laid on a chair or a deliciously thick and luxe rug underfoot, texture is the perfect way to warm up a space and create an escape from the outside world.
As far as the perfect winter warmer rugs are concerned we personally love something luxe underfoot for winter. Something with some texture or a nice deep pile that you can sink your toes into.

We’d love nothing more than to have you share your favourite winter styling tips in the comments, or let us know which Six Fourteen rug you are coveting for the cooler months!
